Looking ahead with 826 MSP

An exciting update from 826 MSP

Dear Friends,
We have some news to share with you! After a 5 month search for a new and innovative leader, 826 MSP is proud to announce Dr. Jamal Adam as our new Executive Director!

Welcome Dr. Jamal Adam!

Dr. Jamal Adam grew up in Somalia and lived in Kenya as a refugee for nine years before he moved to the United States. Jamal has over 20 years of experience, serving multiple roles at multiple educational institutions. Previously, he served as an Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and STEM at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC). Prior to this, Dr. Adam was at Lake Superior College (LSC), Duluth where he served as the Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Before coming to LSC, Jamal worked at Minneapolis College (MCTC) for over 15 years in numerous capacities, including a counseling department coordinator, faculty member, counselor, advisor, and program director, where he was responsible for multicultural student support services. His other experiences include teaching at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and University of Minnesota Duluth, working with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) as a peer reviewer, and serving as a consultant for a variety of organizations. Jamal is passionate about the academic success and personal wellbeing of diverse students. In his free time, Jamal volunteers with several non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities where he serves as a member of the Board of Directors and a mentor. He enjoys traveling when he's not quarantining, long distance running as long as his right knee is cooperating with him, and most importantly, spending quality time with family and friends when time permits.
Dr. Jamal Adam earned his Associate of Arts degree from Minneapolis Community and Technical College, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science and Psychology from Metropolitan State University, a Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

His favorite book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Please join us in welcoming him to our community! We are so grateful for Dr. Adam's commitment to our values and our mission, and are so excited for his leadership and vision.
