Overview of the position:

826 MSP, a youth writing center, seeks a passionate, dynamic, results-oriented and self-driven educator-leader to join our team as the Program Director. This role involves overseeing all educational programming, including strategic direction, planning, implementation, and assessment of our academic and creative writing programs. These programs include field trips, after-school homework help, in-school writing programs, the Young Authors’ Book Project, writing workshops, and our retail store.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $60,0000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience

Program Development, Coordination, and Evaluation (50%):

  • Oversee the development and delivery of 826 MSP’s academic and creative writing programs.

  • Manage the volunteer department, training, and engaging 50-100 community members annually

  • Coordinate the Young Authors’ Book Project, including volunteer recruitment, training, curriculum design, and coordination with stakeholders

  • Design and implement youth leadership development programs tailored to participants' needs and interests

  • Develop and ensure high-quality execution of program publications and other end-products.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness through observation, surveys, and student work assessment

  • Oversee outreach to students, families, schools, and organizations for recruitment and engagement

  • Communicate regularly about 826 MSP’s programs internally and externally.

  • Develop new writing curricula, publishing projects, and collaborations with schools and partners

  • Oversee and evaluate pilot programs and partnerships

Supervision (30%):Supervise the Programs Managers

  • Support and guide program staff in effective youth development practices

  • Oversee and develop other programming positions as needed

  • Provide professional development and coaching to 826 MSP staff with support from the Executive Director

  • Manage 826 MSP’s internship programs for local high school, college, and university students as well as community members

  • Support trainings and orientations for various-sized groups of volunteers

Community Relations (20%):

  • Partner with the Executive Director to steward the 826 MSP brand and program expansion.

  • Assist with grant writing and reporting for program funding

  • Assist with special events

  • Advocate for 826 MSP for donations, resources, and support

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams

  • Ability to travel independently and alone in the Twin Cities metro with occasional US travel.

  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds

  • Ownership of a cell phone for communication with constituents and a car for travel to programming sites

Preferences:

  • Licensed English Instructor

  • Connection to local educators

  • Ability to build strategic partnerships

  • Experience in curriculum development

  • Bilingual skills in one of the languages spoken by students served by 826 MSP

  • Project management skills

  • Experience in program planning, development, coordination, execution, and evaluation

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, teachers, family members, volunteers, and community members
